Meet the experienced and friendly doctors and staff who make Moberly Eye Center, Inc. the leading provider of vision care products and services in Moberly.

David M. Whitson, O.D.

Dr. David Whitson received his a Bachelor of Science degree (with honors)in Biology from Kansas Newman College in 1989, and his Doctor of Optometry degree (with honors) from the University of Missouri-St. Louis School of Optometry in 1993. During his optometric education he served as a member of the U.S. Army Reserves. Following graduation he entered the U.S. Army as a Captain and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri where he was assigned to the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital.

Dr. Whitson went in to private practice in Moberly in 1996 following completion of his active-duty military service. He is an active professional and belongs to the Northeast Missouri Optometric Society, Missouri Optometric Association and American Optometric Association. He has held the positions of President of the Northeast Missouri Optometric Society, member of the University of Missouri-St. Louis School of Optometry Advisory Board and has also served as an Examiner for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry,an organization that assures competency of all new optometrists prior to their licensing.

Dr. Whitson’s family include his wife, Jill, daughters Morgan, Abigail, and Olivia, and son Daniel. He enjoys spending time with his family, more often than not at the soccer field, softball field or basketball court. The entire family enjoys hunting, fishing, camping and boating together.

Dr. Whitson enjoys the art of optometry, especially the diagnosis and management of ocular disease. His patient population has a large percentage of individuals with glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease. He also enjoys working with young children as well as complex or specialty contact lenses.

Ryan C. Wilkerson, O.D.

Dr. Ryan Wilkerson grew up in Lebanon, MO before attending the University of Missouri – Columbia where he graduated with a degree in Biology. He then received his optometry degree from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN, graduating as salutatorian of his class. Dr. Wilkerson joined Moberly Eye Center in 2016.

Dr. Wilkerson provides comprehensive, primary eye care to his patients with particular interest in contact lenses and children’s vision care. He is currently a member of the Missouri Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. He also participates in the American Optometric Association’s InfantSEE program that provides a free comprehensive eye assessment for infants between 6 and 12 months of age.

Dr. Wilkerson lives in Moberly with his wife, Gwen, and young daughter, Luella. Outside of the office, he enjoys spending time with his family and watching/attending Mizzou sporting events.


Laura has been with Moberly Eye Center since 2002. She is our office manager who does a little of everything for the practice. In her words “insurance, accounts receivable, staffing issues, changing light bulbs, and mopping water.” She has been filing insurance claims since 1991 and has various billing and coding certificates.


Julie started working at Moberly Eye Center in 2003. She has been in the eye care business for over 22 years. She is our optician and is ABO and NCLE certified. Her duties include helping patients chose frames that are right for them, educating patients on which lenses would be best, adjusting and dispensing eye glasses, ordering the glasses from the lab, and many other responsibilities that keep our office running smoothly day to day. She lives in Moberly with her husband and daughter. The thing she likes most about her job is that each patient has different likes and dislikes and how fun it is to find something they will like and enjoy to wear.


Tanya has been a member of the staff since joining us in 2009. She has been working in eye care for the past 11 years and loves it. She is currently 1 of 3 technicians.  She has been to the Heart of America Contact lens conference in Kansas City. She lives in Moberly with her daughter.

Brandie is the newest staff member at Moberly Eye Center.  She started with the office in January 2018 as a technician.  Brandie has worked in the medical field for the past 5 years, including obtaining her EMT license.  She also works part time as an EMT and is furthering her education in the medical field at MACC.  Brandie grew up in the Moberly area, where she met her husband, and they have three children together.  In her free time she enjoys watching sports, family game nights, swimming, and hiking with her family.
